The Frog and The Wig

This is just a little story I wrote as an exercise once.  The direction was to write a story about a frog with a wig.  So I wrote one.  The message?  You decide.  Is there a message or is it just a story?

Once upon a time there was a frog.  She was a beautiful frog . . . as frogs go.
One beautiful spring day she was sitting on her favorite lily pad basking in the admiring glances of the other frogs.  Unexpectedly they, the frogs, heard laughter and looked at each other in wonder.  Then they saw them, two young girls, sisters.  The girls were looking for fairies, leprechauns, and four leaf clovers.  When they tired they sat down near the pond.  The younger ask the older to tell her the story of the princess with long hair.
So began the tale of a lonely princess in a tower.
 A handsome prince became very curious when he heard a story about a beautiful princess locked in the tower just outside town.   So one day he stopped by and called out, ”Hey Princess come to the window so I talk to you.”   As the princess looked down from the tower and she fell in love with the prince at first sight . . . and he loved her.  The prince came to the tower every day until the day the princess said, “My hair has gotten really long.  I wonder if you could use it to climb up here so we can be together.”  The prince said, “Well, throw it down here and let’s see.”  So she did.  Her hair reached all the way to the ground.   The handsome prince climbed up to the tower window.  Where he helped the princess escape and they lived happily ever after.
The frog pictured the princess and her beautiful hair.  “I think it would be quite wonderful to have long beautiful hair.”  She had never thought much about hair because frogs are bald you know.  She swam over to where there was some long grass growing just under the surface of the water.  The grass was long and silky.  She gathered some and went back to her lily pad where she weaved it in to a wig of sorts and arranged it on her head.
The other frogs had hidden when they saw the little girls and began to return now that the girls were gone.  When the frogs saw their friend they wondered what the little girls could have to done to put that grass on her head and asked her, ”What happened to you!  You have a mess of grass on your head?  Don’t worry we will help you get it off.”
She smiled and said, “No need.” And with a giggle pulled the grass wig off her head and dropped it in the water.  She told her friends some day she would tell them the story of the princess with the long hair.  Then she jumped in the water laughing and splashing her friends,  saying “Come on let’s before it gets dark and we have to go home.”
As the frogs jumped in to the water and raced to the other side of the pond, she smiled because she was still a beautiful frog . . . as frogs go.

My Birthday

So it is my birthday today.  I wanted to make a special post.  Something profound, something inspired . . .  Well the day is almost gone and I still have not found time to settle my mind to decide on which topic floating around in my head I want to develop.  So I will just share some of the random thoughts that have found their way to my consciousness.

Everything my parents said about how time seems to go by faster and faster as you get older is true.  It is just a perspective change.  A year to someone 55 years old is only 1-2% of their life.  My granddaughter is three years old.  Think of it.  One year is 33% of her life.  To her a year is an eternity.  I can remember when waiting a month, or two, or three for something to happen seemed to be an awfully a long time.  Now I know three months is no time at all.  Life IS short. Make the most of it.  God’s way is the only real path to peace.

Proverbs 12 (New Living Translation)
 14 Wise words bring many benefits,
      and hard work brings rewards.
 15 Fools think their own way is right,
      but the wise listen to others.

If you stumble or fall along the path GET UP. You can change your life right now.  It only takes trust in God, obeying Him, and re-committing to living your life as you know, in your heart of hearts, He wants.  For those that know the truth and have fallen away, it takes a tremendous amount of energy to block out God's Spirit which lives in you.  There will always be an insatiable restlessness.  You think if I can just get here or do this or have that I will have peace.  I have been there and can tell you that you will never truly be at peace until you return to the right relationship with God.   There is love for all in the Lord.  You will never be alone.

James 5
19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

I Peter 3

      11Let him turn away from evil and do good;
       Let him seek peace and pursue it.
       12 For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous,
       And His ears are open to their prayers;
      But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.”

Well that is where I am going to stop for today.  It has been a wonderful day.  A happy birthday.  Thank you to everyone who helped make it special.   Rachel

Why Start A Blog?

I was walking through a maze of cubicles at work one day and a co-worker stopped me to ask if I had ever written anything (professionally I assume).  He asked this question because I had written a couple of emails that were sent to all the employees informing them of the deaths of employees’ family members which he thought were unusually touching.  One email was concerning the death of a young woman's baby and the other was about my father's life when he died.  This reminded me that I had always wanted to write a book.  Maybe a book is too ambitious for a first writing project.  Maybe a blog would be a less intimidating place to start.  Besides a couple of my friends have blogs that I enjoy visiting.  I admire their work very much.

It has been on my heart for some time to start my own blog.  I resisted the idea because I did not want to seem like a copy cat.  Silly, right?  I think that is one of my flaws.  I want to be unique.  Is that another word for selfish?  Does it mean that I want to be the first or only one so I get the glory?  How many times have I missed out on a wonderful opportunity God has put on my heart because someone else had already been given that opportunity and I selfishly did not want to share with anyone?

There is another way to look at it that can also be valid.  Could it be pride?  There are others so accomplished that I feel I might never measure up.  Well, I have decided to stop arguing with "myself" (?) and put my thoughts out here for better or for worse.  I hope you will find faith, hope and love here… a glimpse of our Almighty Father.

Phil 3: 12-14 -
12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,  14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (New Living Translation)
